A small, typical Portuguese fishing village, nestling at the end of a steep ravine, where local fisherman still work their boats and tend their nets. In recent years Salema has become more geared to the independent holiday maker offering hotel, apartment and villa accommodation with excellent sea views. There are good facilities in the village which include two mini-markets, gift shops and a number of restaurants and bars. Try the Boia Bar overlooking the beach, or if you’re looking for a takeaway, fresh pizzas made before your eyes (try the Pepperoni, one of my favourites) are available from the Pizza Bar. Salema is ideal for those wanting to be near a beach, within easy walking distance to restaurants and bars, yet still keeping that village atmosphere.
