Burgau, with its fishermen's cottages, tumble-down narrow cobbled streets towards the small bay and sandy beach. Though slightly more commercialized than Salema, Burgau has a beautiful sandy beach where fishermen mend their nets on the slip way which leads right onto the beach. Numerous bars and restaurants can be found in the village, with one situated on the beach itself. There are also mini-markets, gift shops and a newsagent. A short drive away, on the edge of the village and within walking distance of Encosta do Monte, is the Burgau Sports Centre. Facilities include a swimming pool, tennis/squash courts, a small gym, sauna and aerobics.
